Throw Back Thursday : Mud Cows.

It’s Thursday and that means only one thing – nostalgic throw backs to retro mountain bike stuff!

This week … it’s Mud Cows video, from 1999.

We’re going to spend the next few weeks revisiting some of the classics that make mountain biking what it is today. Stuff from the you-kids-don’t-know-you’re-born, it-wasn’t-like-that-in-my-day golden era of mountain biking. Sure, all the bikes were crap, head angles were over vertical and decent, accessible riding was a gleam in Rowan’s Sorrell’s eye but …. the golden sheen of nostalgia can’t be defeated.

First in the series is the legendary Mud Cows from 1999 – the video series that launched the pans and zooms generation.

While last week’s entry, Sprung from 1998, harked back to the golden days of UK mountain biking as it marched towards global domination, Mud Cows was brash and in your face.

Sprung might seem far removed from the professional scene we see today, but Mud Cows is loaded with lake jumps, horrific wipe-outs and emergency room visits. Michael Ronning of Global Orange fame is the stand out name in the line-up and was renowned for his off-track antics back in the day.

If you don’t like classic 90s MTB with inimitable Aussie style, with a huge dollop of blood and guts, then maybe Mud Cows isn’t for you.

Mud Cows – we salute you.
