Various mainstream news sources today – including The Guardian – are reporting that BMX legend Dave Mirra has been found dead in North Carolina, age 41. His death is said to have been the result of “apparent suicide”.
Mirra turned pro in 1992 and won 24 X Games medals. He held the record for the BMX’er with the most gold medals until 2013. Mirra also, similarly to Matt Hoffman, made himself into a household name through his Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX video game and appearances in the Colin McRae: Dirt 2 video game.
Our condolences go out to his many friends and his family.
