Nukeproof have announced the line-up of their 2016 Development Team to include Kelan Grant, Jack Crowley and Chris Cumming. Having helped riders like Jacob Dickson and Dan Sheridan through the ranks, you’ll need to keep an eye on these young Irish pinners!
The Development team was created to help the best of young local Irish talent break through. With being out of the spotlight of the UK’s mountain bike brands and distributors it’s often easy to overlook the buzzing scene and rider talent that lies across the Irish sea.
With riders such as EWS-winner Greg Callaghan and our Factory racer Jacob Dickson all riding for Nukeproof at Junior level we have a proud history in supporting talent. After a very successful 2015, the Nukeproof Development team is back. This year Kelan Grant and Jack Crowley welcome Chris Cumming to the team.
Kelan proved his speed in winning in both Irish Enduro and Downhill races, with an awesome performance to score 28th overall at the Enduro World Series in Carrick. A mid-season shoulder injury put paid to a overall title hopes, but he came back to finish impressively in the final EWS rounds. Kelan will be focusing on enduro races in 2016 aboard his all new Mega 290 Pro. Hailing from Oban and now living and working on a placement year from a design degree in Belfast. Living with elite road cyclists has pushed him to training hard over the winter. He has also benefited from the support from Chris Kilmurray at Point 1 Athletic’s development. Kelan is a massive personality, positive and friendly approach to his racing, always having a laugh and enjoying the travelling with friends and visiting where his success can take him.
In 2016 Kelan will be competing in the 4 European EWS rounds and also the British Enduro Series races. He will also be going for the two Irish enduro series, so a busy season in store. Watch out for this Jonny Bravo lookalike at a race near you!
Jack comes into 2016 on a wave after winning the Junior IDMS title in 2015. Now in his 2nd year on the team and on the new Pulse he has chosen to step up to the elite category in Ireland. His main focus will be racing Junior at select World Cups and British Downhill Series races.
Coming from a motocross family, his Mum, Dad and family have inspired his commitment and dedication to chase the downhill dream. Living in Waterford, Ireland, Jack has been travelling north to ride with the East Coast MTB team in Rostrevor on weekends over the winter (Thank you to East Coast Adventure for making this possible).
Jack has been a pleasure to work with for the past year and the Nukeproof team look forward to working with him to help him achieve his potential. In his final year of full time education he will be balancing his study and riding. Jack was not able to join us for the ’16 launch photo/ video shoot due to family commitments, but we look forward to working with him this year.
A new addition to the team in young Irish racer Chris Cumming. Chris finished 3rd overall in the Juvenile BDS (on his Mega AM), won IDMS and was crowned Irish National Champion. He is full of energy, positive, polite, hyperactive and showing a passion for mountain biking to match his talent. Living with Big Wood and Rostrevor on his doorstep Chris lives on his bike. From an after school spin to “helping” at the East Coast Uplift Service at Rostrevor. For 2016 he is making the transition to a full downhill bike (2016 Pulse Comp) and has been training alongside Jack and Jacob Dickson.
The race set up is a family affair with Chris’s parents running the East Coast MTB team, which will be supported by Nukeproof through our UK distributor Hotlines featuring local rippers from the Rostrevor area.
