Cotic’s new 5th generation BFe … the hardtail ROCKET!

Cotic just launched their 5th generation of their classic hardtail – the Cotic BFe 27.5.

The new Cotic BFe 27.5 looks wild – they’re saying that their new bike is a “trail bashing, downhill thrashing, jump park smashing, enduro winning, do-it-all fun machine”.

We’ve not ridden one yet (whenever you’re ready Cotic!) but by the looks of the numbers and how much we’ve loved their previous bikes we’re inclined to agree.

The new frame is a big change in geometry from previous models. It’s designed for a 130mm to 160mm fork and to fit big tires – you can run 26″ wheels with up to 3″ tires or 27.5″ wheels up to 2.6″ tires.

The versatility of the new frame seems to be the big one – stick a 130mm fork on and built a fast, fun, jumpy whip-about or stick a 160mm fork and some big wheels on and build yourself something to destroy downhill tracks and win enduros. Variety is good, right?

Geometry that makes us want to go shredding

Whilst the geometry of the new bike isn’t mental it is definitely super modern and spot on for what we’d like to see on a hardtail. Stick a 160mm fork on the bike and you’ll get 465mm reach with a 65d head angle … that’s basically the same size and shape as this full suspension bike we reviewed earlier this year.

Steel is real (really good)

The frame’s downtube is Reynolds 853 whilst the rest of the bike is FM Heat Treated double butted cromoly steel. Cotic reckon that allows them to keep the costs and the weight down whilst still keeping the frame strong. The frame also has an “Ovalform top tube, oversized plug welded seat tube, wishbone stays, Syntace thru axle dropouts, stealth seatpost routing and taper steerer compatible head tube”.

What will it cost and where can I get one?

Cotic are offering the new BFe as a frame only or a complete bike, with various builds available.

A frame only will cost you £449 with 142mm Syntace X-12 thru axle. Full builds start at £1629 with custom builds available.

You can order a BFe of your own over at the Cotic homepage.
