It may only be February, but Ed Masters has taken the 2018 New Zealand National Champs title ahead of Brook MacDonald and Matt Walker.
Cardrona was the setting for the 2018 New Zealand Downhill National Championships, and by all accounts the track was a racer’s dream.
There wasn’t much in it at the sharp end, with Masters pipping former Team Wideopenmag rider Laurie Greenland by a second and a half, with Bulldog 2.93 behind Eddie, and Walker 4.41 adrift. With Laurie not eligible for the champs, your 1, 2, 3 would be Masters, MacDonald and Walker.
Kate Weatherly took the Elite ladies’ title by 12 seconds, with Junior rider Tuhoto-Ariki Pene taking the Under 19 title, but more crucially, taking 7th overall. One to look out for in the future.
