Stanton Cycles have just announced their new Stanton Startline frames, a more affordable and Taiwanese built option for anyone that can’t stretch to British built steel.
The new Stanton Cycles Startline frame was announced for the first time at the NEC show and looks like a great option for anyone who can’t spend a fortune on a new hardtail.
Dan Stanton explained to us that they’re now making as many of their hardtail and full suspension frames as possible in house in the UK. Dan does the design and they have their own frame builder and a painter who puts everything together.
Their mission is to take a ‘no compromise’ approach to bike building – meaning they want to build the best possible frames that they can at the best price that they can.
Dan admits that their new in-house approach can push their frames beyond what’s affordable to some people. If you want an example of that, the last Stanton we tested was the new Stanton Slackline Ti which is £1850 just for the frame!
So, the Stanton team will keep working with the Taiwanese frame suppliers that they used before starting work in house and produce the new Asian build Stanton Startline frame.
The Startline frames are, they say, great for anyone that’s “looking for an everyday trail frame, a winter hack, or just a solid quality frame for pulling a child trailer”.
Everything you need to know about the Stanton Startline
The Stanton Startline frames will come in 27.5″ and 29″ wheel sizes with a bolt through back end and to take boost. They’ll take up to 2.4″ tyres.
They’ll be made of affordable heat treated 4130 steel double butted tubes with a 44mm head tube to fit tapered and straight fork steerers.
They’ll come with internal dropper post routing.
They’ll be painted in the UK at Stanton’s HQ up north with options to upgrade paint.
We don’t have a geometry chart just yet but Dan tells us that the frames will be built as closely as possible to what Stanton use for their UK built frames.
He told us that “To meet the price point we’ve adapted the Stanton Startline geometry to suit fittings (chain ring clearance and tyre clearance) rather than using costly yokes like other models where we’ve been geometry lead. Other aspects like the dropper routing and dropouts etc we’ve used less labour intensive processes and cheaper alternatives”.
If you want one, they’ll be coming into the UK in early 2019 and are likely to be on sale in February.
And the price? The Stanton Startline frames are going to be £499 and available at stantonbikes.com.
