The New Nukeproof Giga | Everything You Need to Know.

Nukeproof bridge the gap between the Mega and the Dissent with the new Giga, a seriously capable big mountain machine.

Borne from Sam Hill’s 2014 World Championship Mega, combined with the platform of the Dissent, comes the Giga, a long travel machine designed to slide nicely in between the its erstwhile siblings.

The Nukeproof Giga is a long travel, carbon fibre-only, super enduro machine that started life when Sam Hill got his custom Mega for the Cairns World Championships, then morphed into a longer travel machine when the new Dissent linkage showed its promise in other applications.

Both wheel sizes run a 180mm fork, with the 275 offering 180mm rear wheel travel and the 290 170mm. All frames are full UD Carbon Fibre T700/800 monocoque with a 2-Position Adjustable Main Pivot. Seat tubes have been designed to allow maximum seat post insertion with user-friendly cable routing.

The two-position pivot allows you to adjust the progression of the suspension between 25.5 and 29%, but both have been fine tuned for good small bump ability and mid-stroke support. Anti-squat has been tuned for climbing in low gears, but drops off lower down the block. Anti-squat has been dialled off for cornering support but tails off for big hits. You also get 50mm of the travel as rearward to deal with the trail hits better.

The idea behind all this is to make a more downhill-orientated enduro machine.

It’s the finishing touches that sets the Giga, and Nukeproofs apart as well. Enduro Max bearings are used throughout, the frame comes with a frame wrap to protect it against the elements, you get room for a 750ml bottle, a mounting point underneath the top tube, a frame-mounted rear fender and rubberised frame protection where it’s needed.

Geometry

On the Giga 275 in a size medium, you get a 460mm reach with a suitably clipped 410 seat tube. Effective seat tube angle is 77.75 degrees, with a downhill-worthy 63.5 degree head angle. Wheelbase is 1233mm with a chainstay at a fairly common 435mm.

Bump up to the bigger wheels and the medium Giga 290 offers you a 455mm reach on the same 410mm seat tube. Head and seat tube angles remain the same at 63.5 and 77.75 respectively. Wheelbase extends to 1241 with a suitably long 445mm chainstay.
