And Your British National Downhill Champions Are…

Glencoe Mountain Resort once again played host to the British National Downhill Champs, and boy did the weather have its say too.

Riders would tackle the resurfaced Glencoe Mountain Resort Black run this weekend to see who would wear the National Champs sleeve for the next twelve months.

Senior Men

With defending champ Matt Walker heading to Snowshoe, ol’ Greggy Baz Williamson saw off a string charge from Gastovlog himself, Adam Brayton to pinch the National Champs sleeve for another year. Taylor Vernon continues his solid form despite definitely not being a full time pro to take the bronze medal.

Senior Women

Stacey Fisher would take the sleeve and the gold this year ahead of Jess Stone, who dusted off the downhill bike and snuck herself a silver. Kerry Wilson would round out the podium.

KJ Sharp would opt not to race owing to her haematoma she suffered in Andorra.

Junior Men

William Brodie would post a winning time that would have put him 5th in Elite Men. He’d take the win by just under a second over Luca Thurlow. Both would be a country mile ahead of the rest. Freddie Davies would round out the podium.

Junior Women

Only three Junior Women would finish their finals runs, Bethany Mccully, Wideopenmag alumnus Elin berry and Nina-Yves Cameron. They would finish in that order. Mccully would see off the other two comfortably, the latter two battling for the second spot. Berry coming off the better this time.

Master Women

Sara Allan would be the sole Master Woman on track and would take the sleeve for the next 12 months.

Veteran Women

Like her Masters counterpart, Maxine Filby would be the only Veteran Woman taking on Glencoe Mountain this weekend.

Grand Veteran Women

She might be in Grand Veteran but Jane Page’s time is nothing to sniff at. Congratulations champ.

Youth Girls

Last known owner of our man Pete’s former Iron Maiden liveried Orange Five, Heather Wilson, is your 2022 British National Youth downhill champion.

Juvenile Girls

Jess Stone’s padawan learner Katy Mcgowan would take the Juvenile Girls win by a comfy margin over Caragh Muir. Jessica Wipat would round out the podium.

Master 30-34 Men

Callum Mccubbing would slot into first some four odd seconds ahead of Andrew Donnachie with Intense Factory Racing mechanic Jon Stout taking the bronze.

Master 35-39 Men

Peter Walton is your Masters 35-39 National Champ, crossing the line some 1.4 seconds up on Michael Vickers who was six up on third place Gaz Wilson.

Veteran 40-44 Men

Is there anything Rowan Sorrell can’t do? Masters Stone King Rally win, Bikepark Wales day job and now he’s your Veteran 40-44 Downhill Champ. Marcus Scott would slot into second, with Neil White rounding out the top 3.

Veteran 45-49 Men

John Young and Mark Weightman would have a good old battle for the sleeve this year, with the Scot coming out on top by 1.5 seconds. Matt Dean would round out the top 3.

Grand Veteran Men

Darren Wilson would get the upper hand on Fort William local Alastair Maclennan by 4.5 seconds, with Justin Barrett exactly 7 back on the front man.

Youth Boys

Leo Frater would see off Morgan Williams by 2.8 seconds to take the title this year. Will Haines would coming 4.1 back to take the bronze medal.

Juvenile Boys

Stan Nisbet would come down the hill fastest in Juvenile Boys to take the National Champs sleeve for 2022. Felix Griffiths would take the silver, with our pal Nathan de Vaux a whisker behind him in third.
