A bike with plenty of pedigree behind it, the Saracen Myst returns but with a completely different silhouette than its predecessor.
Under the likes of Manon Carpenter, Danny Hart, Jordan Williams and Matt Walker, the Saracen Myst has taken all the titles worth taking, and in its biggest update since its inception, it has had a complete redesign.
You will have no doubt seen a bike that looks very much like the new Saracen Myst in the capable hands of Matt Walker and Greg Williamson as the two have been helping develop the new bike that has been launched today.
Everything but the head angle and material has changed, with the signature Saracen Series 3 6061 alloy frame comes in its usual custom butted and hydroformed shape to suit the new bike. In many ways the bike takes the form of the older Tune Ride Link flipped upside down, but there’s plenty more going on than this.
The lowered shock drops the centre of gravity down and backwards, whilst also improving rearward axle path as well as better anti-squat and anti-rise. Anti-squat drops to 96% at sag, and lower overall than the outgoing bike, to keep sprints efficient but making the rest of the travel more supple.
The mid stroke also gains more sensitivity through an increased leverage rate. The leverage rate also remains more consistent through the travel. For better braking in high grip situations, as well as a neutral feel in corner setup and in repeated hits, the anti-rise remains more consistent through the travel than before. Travel also jumps from 203mm to 211mm at the rear wheel.
Head angle is the only part of the geometry equation that remains the same. Reach grows 15mm on the smallest size and 25mm on the larger two sizes over the older model, with chainstays growing by 10mm, seat angle steepening by two and a half degrees, whilst the seat tubes get 10mm longer.
Two models and a frame will be on offer. The Saracen Myst Team is, as the name suggests, very much the bike that Madison Saracen ride, coming in at a somewhat sensible £5,499.99. The Myst Pro sits below this at £3,599.99. The Myst X frame is £2,199.99, comes with a Fox DHX2 Factory shock, rear hub and grips.
Geometry
The new Myst is available in three sizes, 455, 485 and 505, all based around reach numbers, with every bike having the same seat tube length at 410mm. Head angle remains the same at 63 degrees with an effective seat tube angle of 76.5 degrees. Chainstays grow by 10mm to 450mm.
