Granite Design launched their RocknRoll TQ torque wrench tool earlier in the year, adding to their long line of handy tools that don’t take up much space. Rather than slotting into your bars or steerer, the tool roll it’s contained by is the ideal size and shape for frame storage, or not takig up much room in your bag.

The 600D polyester bag houses the wrench, the bit adaptor and the holder for the bits. You get 2Nm to 10Nm of torque range with bits from 2 up to 8mm, including a 2.5mm, as well as T20 and T25 Torx heads, plus a Philips screwdriver. All up weight is 190g, so hardly porky by anyone’s standards.

In the hand, the quality of both the roll and the tool itself feels good, and there’s been no issue with multiple openings and closures of the velcro regardless of the conditions. The tools stay snug in the roll and might be a little fiddly with thicker gloves or cold hands, but they stay put for the most part.

None of the bits are showing any sign of rounding or other wear, and the detents of both the bit adaptor and the bits themselves feel as sharp as they day they arrived. If you want a tool for multi-day trips, or rebuilding a bike after flying, you can’t really go wrong with the RocknRoll TQ. It’s a solid, quality tool you’ll always find room for.

We tested the wrench against a Wera workshop torque wrench to see how the settings tallied up. It’s worth noting that the Wera won’t fit handily in your frame storage, and Granite do list the accuracy as +/- 15%. On a couple of bikes, with bolt torque spec at 6Nm, the Wera showed 6 on the dot, with the RocknRoll TQ showing 5. Arguably the right side of the torque settings as you’re unlikely to over tighten anything.

What do we think?

The Granite Design RocknRoll TQ is the torque wrench you need when you’re nowhere near the big guns in the workshop. Light, solid and packs down small, it’ll help you out of a pinch when you need it.

We love:

  • Low weight
  • Well-made tool and roll
  • Most bit sizes covered

Could do better:

  • Not an awful lot
