Ladies and gents – we are royally stoked to welcome super talented Youth rider Laurie Greenland to Wideopenmag’s downhill team.
The new Nukeproof race bikes are still on route … so we met up with Loz for a shred of his local BMX track over the weekend to welcome him aboard.
Laurie will join Rich Thomas and Jay Williamson on the team and between them they will take Wideopenmag to the World Cups, British Downhill Series and various other UK downhill and enduro events.
Loz and the team will be rocking Nukeproof Pulse downhill bikes and Fox clothing. They will also be supported by Conti Tyres, Action Cameras, Tf Tuned, Fenwicks, Five Ten UK and RoostDH.
At the ripe old age of 15 Loz has already scored some killer results – placing 5th overall in the 2012 British Downhill Series with 6 podiums throughout the year. Loz confesses to being “small for my age” and amazingly his top results in 2012 were won during his first season on a long travel bike – previously having raced the gnarliest tracks in the UK on single crown fork equipped trail bikes! Loz is also a super talented BMX racer and – alongside racing downhill – represented the UK at the 2012 BMX World Champs.
Wideopenmag’s World Cup rider Rich Thomas spotted Loz at the BDS and was blown away by his talent on two wheels and his whole attitude to racing. “Laurie is great – he’s super talented and he’s got his head screwed on right to succeed. His whole approach to training, riding and racing is really impressive – particularly for a youth. I can’t wait to see what we can all learn from each other.” After Rich’s recommendation and a further rave review from mechanic Chaz Curry who saw him take 1st place at the South West Champs we knew we had to get him on board. We’re stoked to welcome Loz to the family and are already working hard to help him train hard and ride faster.
Laurie says: “I’m stoked to be riding for Wideopenmag this year. I had a great year in 2012 and I just want to have fun, get faster and do well at the BDS and race World Cups as soon as I can. With the awesome line up of sponsors and all the experience of my new team mates I’m in a great place to make that happen”.
We’re stoked to have Loz on board and have already had some great fun on the trails with him. The focus for the next couple of months is helping to support his off-season training and gradually building up towards the first BDS race at Combe Sydenham.
As soon as Loz and the team have their 2013 race bikes we’ll get a proper MTB edit online.
