Team Wideopenmag rider Kye Forte can’t join us for this weekend’s British Downhill Series race at Bala.
We want to fill his place with a rider that will really benefit from a bit of help.
We put a call out for riders to let us know if they wanted to join us for a weekend. We wanted non-elite riders and people that don’t normally get loads of support. We got LOADS of great responses and loads of great riders. Lots of you emailed in and literally everyone that we heard from would have been a great person to join the team and spend the weekend with.
But … we had to chose one and chosen we finally have. First up … we’re going to announce the runners up. These are the guys that we felt we would really love to have helped but that didn’t quite get the top spot.
The runners up are:
Rosy Monaghan – a 13 year old female racer who wants to be the youngest girl to race the downhill World Cup. That’s rad.
Adam Whitchurch – 16 years old, from Belgium and living in the UK away from his parents. Adam is fast on an XC bike but struggles with a bit of bad luck on the DH’er!
Emma Braithwaiteย – “The right amount of competitive”, Emma is super keen and a mere 20 seconds off her rival. She wants to get up the results sheet. And she bribed us with flapjack!
Patrick Tully – For his excellent video application. You can watch that here!
And the rider that will join us for the weekend at the Bala British Downhill Series …
The rider that we’ve chosen wasn’t tough to pick. Everyone that applied deserved some helped but our chosen rider really stood out as someone that deserves a leg up!
He’sย a young, 15 year old racer that has had a mixed bag of results in 2015. He’s had an awesome 6th place in Youth at the Scottish Champs (an awesome result!) but suffered with a DNS at Fort William and the enduro at Whinlatter.
He can put in top ten results when he’s on his game but struggles a bit with nerves and putting in solid race runs. Even more that than – he usually races with his dad who recently broke his neck racing Llangollen. Since then he’s had a tough few weeksย looking after his old man (who is now in a halo brace!) and has even been having to help him put his socks on and keep the house tidy!
So – well done Thomas Slack – you’re very welcome to join us and take Kye’s place for the weekend!
Thomas will track-walk with us, he’ll get a mechanic to help maintain his bike, he’ll get his bike washed, he’ll get photos for his facebook, he can have some food, tips from our coach and generally just be looked after all weekend.
AND … you’ll get a free pair of Crankbros pedals as a souvenir of your weekend, thanks to Extra-UKย and a free Mudhugger front mudguard.
Well done fella, we’re looking forward to hanging out with you!
Thanks to everyone that helped with this story – either by applying or sharing it online. We’d love to work with everyone but the pits aren’t big enough! Cheers!
