Steve Peat announces his retirement

Massive newsย – the big man Steve Peat has announced his retirement.

The man, the legend, the Steve Peat has announced his retirement. But don’t worry – you’ll get another season of Sheffield Steel. 2016 will be his last year of World Cup downhill racing – you get one more year to see Steve in action.

“For 25 years I’ve lived for race weekend …”

Assuming Steve races the full season – his final World Cup could well be Vallnord, Andora at the World Cup finale on 3/4 September 2016. If he races World Champs – wow – that will be an epic final race. That’s 6-11 September at Val Di Sole, Austria.

Steve teased us with an instagram post this morning talking about his “toughest decision ever” and explains the lot in the stunning video made with his bike sponsor, Santa Cruz.

“The clock ticks on more than just a race run and the older I get, the more time I have to think”

Let’s face it – people (not least journos like us!) have been annoying Steve for years by asking him when he’ll call it a day. With a family, kids and a lifetime of achievements behind him it must feel like a pretty good place to move on to the next chapter of his life and his career. The big question is … What’s next for Steve?

… And wow. Is 2016 going to be a hell of a last-World-Cup Party!
