Team Wideopenmag need a new mechanic for the British Downhill Series and National Champs … Fancy joining us?
We’re looking for someone that can help make our team’s race bikes faster and keep them running beautifully throughout a race weekend. You don’t need to be super experienced – you just need to be keen, willing to work under a bit of pressure and happy to grow your skills. It’s about being careful, methodical and having an eye for detail. Young guns looking to grow their experience are very welcome, we’re a great launch pad to bigger and better things.
Equally importantly – we need someone that’s fun, has a good sense of humour, doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty and isn’t a diva. We want someone we can travel with, work with and drink a beer with!
You’ll need to be available for all of the British Downhill Series and National Champs events in 2016 to work as one of two mechanics for our 4 DH racers.
Here’s what we think our new mechanic will look like:
- Able to attend all British Downhill Series and National DH champs events
- Loves bike racing and is excited to help our racers go faster
- Has experience as a mechanic for a bike shop, race team, racer or similar
- Works carefully and thoroughly and understands that doing it right is more important than doing it fast
- Key skills: PDI check, strip, service and rebuild Nukeproof Pulse frames, gear setup, brake bleeds, tubeless tire setup and change
- Nice to have skills: Suspension setup, wheel truing
- Understands how DH racing works and what’s important to DH racers on race weekend (or wants to learn!)
- Is friendly, approachable and can talk to people that stop by the pits – can be a good ambassador for Wideopen.
- Ideally has a driving license and a well stocked tool box (although we can provide tools on loan for the season)
The willing candidate will mechanic alongside Ryan – who joined the team in 2015 – and will mechanic for Charlie Hatton, Kye Forte, Rich Thomas and our new youth DH’er (TBC). They’ll be managed by the Team Manager.
We won’t make you rich sorry, but we can pay you for your work.
