What can be said about the late, great Kelly McGarry that encompasses his boundless enthusiasm for life and the sport of mountain biking? Our sport felt a collective loss with Kelly’s passing.
ODI have released their final edit with Kelly that really shows what the man was really all about. Riding bikes and having fun was the aim of the game, and whenever he rolled the bike out the door, his faithful companion, Tui the whippet.
Paul Rayner, the guy behind who shot this, first met Kelly when he did a shoot for Wideopen the day after he arrived in NZ, on a borrowed camera, from a bloke he met the night before at a party.
Far beyond just simply a video to celebrate the life of a truly great individual, this edit serves to promote the legacy of Kelly McGarry through the trust funds set up in his name.
For those who have been inspired by Kelly or would like to help continue to support his passion for mountain biking, we would encourage you to visit and contribute to one of the following Trusts that were set-up in Kelly’s honour.
Funds collected will be used to fulfill his passion by “advocating for and building mountain bike trails in New Zealand and supporting emerging/promising/rising New Zealander mountain bikers in pursuit of achieving their goals domestically and abroad.”
Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those who knew Kelly. This is a tragic loss for the mountain bike community as for all those who knew and interacted with him. He will certainly be missed. RIP McGazza.
