Joel Anderson is a true home grown hero – he grew up racing the BDS and uplifting with his dad and Brother at Triscombe in the South West.
Now … well now he’s riding the biggest jumps in the world with the best freeriders in the world.

Radness by Joel Anderson, words and images by Tom Caldwell
Fresh off the plane from Canada Joel Anderson and I headed off to the biggest set of bicycle jumps in the world (probably), Loosefest. It would be Joel’s 2nd time on Nico Vink’s creations and he couldn’t wait to get cracking.
I stuck a camera in his face for a whole week and he’s probably thankful I’ve gone home now. But here’s all of our antics, from riding to gokarts and everything inb etween.
Grab a brew and enjoy the adventure!

Once we hit the tunnel, we were faced with a 2 hour delay, at 10.30pm. So vessel driver Tom Isted cracked out his airbed, wandered into the services, found a plug and pumped it up. Then crammed it into the van. We got all of 10 mins sleep due to the sodding service announcement every 5 mins.
Please excuse the badly focused image but this was at 5.40am after probably less than an hours sleep.
I know fisheye makes things look big, but this is actually huge. The first jump in the big line, around 24ish meters.
Freshly compacted lips everywhere. Some very skilled digger work from Nico and the boys.
Checking it all out. Joel and Tom were eager to get going, I however wanted my hotel bed that was about 300 yards away.
Joel’s steed, provided by Wideopenmag. The Banshee Legend comes complete with Deity Components and Stans No Tubes wheels. It handled everything without fault.
This is Joel still in a different time zone. And Tom on Tinder.
Bike Park Ferme Libert is the spot that holds the FEST line, but it also holds a good selection of riding. Bike park tracks, rooty woods, freeride features, jumps. It’s got the lot!
Joel fills Ratboy in on what it feels like to fly.
Before all the action kicked off, we filmed and sessioned the bike park. There’s some sweet features about. Here Joel sends it past 90 degrees.
A sunny scrub in what looks like the Alps. Nah, Belgium mate.
Pumptrack laps filled the time between bike park runs. Do whatever you want, whenever you want. Thats the rules at the FEST it seems.Flowing the bike park lines ‘erryday.
High and sideways over the trick jump, deep in the woods.
The man himself, Nico Vink, finishing off a few lips and making sure they’re rock hard before the rest of the riders turn up.
Joel sending a suicide on the second jump. Turned out to be his signature trick of the week. There we have it. Joel’s Loosefest adventure for 2017 is over. He once again proved he is a force in freeride mountain biking, holding it down for the South West!
We’ll be back next year!
