German direct sales brand Canyon have launched womens’ specific models of their ever popular Grand Canyon hardtail and Spectral full suspension bikes.
With a rider like Ines Thoma on their books, it was only a matter of time before Canyon released designed for the ladies who shred. We take a closer look at the womens’ specific Grand Canyon and Spectral.
Spectral.
The Spectral has long been the staple of the Canyon range, and with the addition of a 2XS size, there really is no one that can’t fit on one of these great value bikes. Canyon have cropped and lowered top tubes, lightened fork and shock tunes, made the start of leverage curves more supple and even slackened head angles to accommodate what they feel is the ‘average’ female rider.
Prices start at 2199 Euro for the Spectral AL 5.0 that comes with Rockshox dampers, a Shimano SLX/XT drivetrain mix and DT Swiss M1900 wheels. The AL 8.0 is the cream of the alloy crop at 3699 Euro sporting top of the range Rockshox damping, an XO1/GX mix and DT Swiss’ excellent XM1501 Spline wheels.
There is a single carbon model in the range, the CF 9.0 which gets all the bells and whistles at 4999 Euro, Fox Factory suspension, a full SRAM XO1 group and DT XMC1200 wheels.
Grand Canyon.
With the Grand Canyon undergoing a similar changes as the guys’ Spectral saw to make it womens’ specific, you get a similarly cropped and dropped front end, with a 2XS size sporting an 80mm fork instead of the 110mm travel for the remainder of the sizing.
Canyon hail this as their most progressive hardtail ever… We’re not convinced by this going by what we’ve seen of British hardtails of late, but this does look like a very different beast to our steel machines.
In any case, prices start at a mere 1399 Euro for the AL 8.0 that has a Rockshox Reba with a light tune, a Shimano SLX/XT mix and Mavic’s XA wheelset. Top of the range is the AL 9.0 Trail that runs on SRAM’s GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain and DT Swiss’ M1700 wheels and comes in at 1999 Euro.
