Yeti’s latest addition to their quiver of full suspension, Switch Infinity-equipped mountain bikes comes in the form of a 4″ travel 29er, the SB100.
While do-it-all mountain bikes seem to have their travel increased year on year, Yeti claim their new SB100 is just as capable everywhere and maybe faster point-to-point than their long travel offerings owing to its climbing prowess.
Yeti’s Geoff Kabush will be racing an SB100 to defend his titles at the BC Bike Race, Moab Rocks and the Downieville Classic, hinting at what the new bike from the Colorado-based outfit is capable of.
SB100 Features
- Switch Infinity suspension redesigned for SB100
- 2 carbon fibre frame material options – T-Series and C-Series
- Integrated 2-bolt ISCG-05 mounts
- Tapered integrated head tube (41mm/52mm)
- Custom down tube protector and chain guards
- Internal carbon tubes inside of frame for hassle-free cable routing
- Integrated axle and derailleur hanger system
- Boost rear hub spacing
- Clearance for standard sized water bottle
- Uninterrupted seat tube for compatibility with longer travel dropper
One bike to rule them all?
For many riders, short travel 29ers will make far lighter work of most terrain, and, assuming the SB100 makes good the hype around it, it could well be quite the speed machine.
The hype does seem a little confused though. Yeti are claiming this is a bike that is far more capable than the numbers might suggest and that it sports ‘gravity-inspired’ geometry.
With a short(ish) reach 452mm on the large and a head angle of almost 68 degrees, we’re hoping the proof is in the pudding. Numbers don’t always translate to what you might think once on the trail.
The SB100 effectively sits beneath the SB4.5 as a slightly racier option, with steeper angles and less travel and a potential strong rival to the new Santa Cruz Blur.
Options.
The SB100 will be available to Yeti dealers globally and offered in Carbon-Series with one kit option, TURQ-Series with three kits options and as a frame only. The SB100 is available in size small to extra-large and the SB100 Beti in small to large.
The SB100 Beti simply has a lighter shock tune, 170mm cranks and a ladies’ saddle.
