TESTED: 2018 Troy Lee Designs Skyline Jersey

The Troy Lee Designs Skyline jersey is a light, comfortable summer mountain bike jersey.

It packs in a great blend of technical features without making you look like you’re trying to be a factory jackson.

Sometimes it’s nice to wear something that doesn’t scream “Look at me! I’m a mountain biker!” right?

If that’s your vibe then you’ll quite likely love the Troy Lee Designs Skyline jersey. It brings together a load of techy features that work really well whilst also looking casual enough to wear for a beer or a ride into town. It looks like a teeshirt but it’ll still keep you cool and fit perfectly when riding.

The Skyline comes in some understated, plain and simple options like you see here and some shoutier options too if that’s your bag.

Whilst the Skyline might look pretty casual, it’s definitely a proper riding jersey. The neck and sleeves borrow the same design as TLD’s SE Pro moto jerseys which makes for a very comfortable, easy to move in shape and fit.

The rear panel of the jersey is a perforated mesh that will keep you cool and there’s a hidden pocket for your beer money with a goggle wipe.

The Skyline is made of a mix of 92% polyester and 8% Spandex. It has a good amount of stretch and has a bit of weight to the fabric whilst still feeling soft, comfortable and easy to move around in. It treads a nice balance between a mid-weight tee-shirt and a super light race top.

Troy Lee have also used material that is Bluesign approved, meaning it has been independently certified as being environmentally sustainable and free from harmful substances.

The shape of the jersey is its real plus point from my perspective. It’s a super comfortable, long and baggy fit that feels really light and airy in hot weather. There’s no clingy bits and you won’t feel ‘wrapped’ in your jersey like you would in more race cut model. For the more generously proportioned cyclist it’s a good choice!

And if you prefer your jerseys a bit louder and prouder, there’s a few graphics options that you might like. The pic below shows Ben riding the Skyline Checker jersey, which is the same jersey just with some shoutier graphics.

The TLD Skyline Checker jersey is the option if you want to go a bit more in-your-face.

We like:

  • Lightweight, comfortable and cool in hot weather
  • Looks good without looking too “MTB”
  • Pick loud-and-shouty or subtle-and-stylish graphics

Could do better:

  • Not the cheapest jersey around but certainly not the priciest.

We think:

At £55 it’s not the cheapest jersey you can get but the Troy Lee Designs Skyline is a great piece of kit. It’s soft and comfortable and the weight of the fabric is a perfect mix of being lightweight but not too much. It’s cool, comfy and ideal for slaying summer singletrack. Thumbs up.
