The UCI have announced 2019 World Cup downhill and World Championships dates and venues.
The 2019 Downhill World Cup schedule has just appeared online and there’s a few interesting changes.
First up, we’re getting an extra event for 2019 with 8 World Cup races, rather than the 7 we had in 2018. Why the extra event? Good question… we’re still waiting on a statement from Red Bull or the UCI to explain that one.
The geography is also interesting with 7 races on the bounce in Europe and then two back-to-back in the US and Canada (although the two are a 16 hour apart!). The US event is also the first we’ve had for the first time in a couple of years, visiting Snowshoe in West Virginia.
Maribor and Les Gets are also venues that we haven’t seen in a few years. Maribor was last used for a World Cup in 2009 (won by Minnaar and Rach Atherton) and Les Gets has been off the schedule since 2004 World Champs (Fabien Barel and Vanessa Quin) and way back in ’02 for a World Cup (won by Peaty and Anne Caro).
2019 Downhill World Cup Dates and Venues:
1 Maribor Slovenia 28th April
2 Fort William 2nd June
3 Leogang 9th June
4 Vallnord Andora 7th July
5 Les Gets 14th July
6 Val di Sole Italy 4th August
7 Lenzerheide Switzerland 11th August
8 Snowshoe USA 9th September
