The Troy Lee Designs Stage helmet finally landed and looks awesome

The new Troy Lee Designs Stage helmet has been floating around the internet for a few months now and has, we’re stoked to say, finally arrived at Wideopen for a review.

The Stage is built around the full fat Troy Lee Designs D3 helmet. TLD have taken the D3 and stripped it right back to make it as light and airy as possible.

It’s very similar to the Fox Proframe and is designed for rides that need a bit of extra protection but that will be too hot and sweaty in a ‘proper’ full face. For us, that means racing but also those big days out winching up fire roads and tearing down those gnarly tracks we used to save for the DH bikes.

The Stage helmet keeps you cool with 11 ‘in’ vents and 14 ‘out vents’. The vents work together to channel cool air in, flow it over your head and push warm air out of the back.

Fox Speedframe Leaderboard 2025

The Troy Lee Designs Stage prototype weighs around 690g (for a medium) and comes in three shell sizes and 5 colours.

Sizes can be adjusted to suit with swappable cheek pads and a rear pad. The buckle uses a magnetic Fidlock system so you can open and close it on the move, one handed.

Protection is provided through a dual density shell that Troy Lee say “combine to safely manage high and low speed impact energy. The Stages also has MIPS protection built in, which rotates as your head hits the dirt to help ward off head injury.
