YT’s ever-popular big mountain machine, the Capra, gets two bespoke wheel size frame options with some geometry tweaks to boot.
The Capra gets an update and is now offered in either Mullet (MX) or 29″ guises with rear triangles, suspension and kinematics to suit. Reach, seat and head angles also get tweaked as part of the refresh.
The new YT Capra retains its familiar silhouette, the German direct sales outfit opting to go for iterative changes rather than a wholesale update of their long travel super enduro machine. Gone is the 27.5″ option, replaced by their Capra MX, with a Mullet setup and 170mm rear travel. The 29″ Capra remains, with travel shortening to 165mm out the back.
To celebrate the launch, there will be 100 ‘Return of the Goat II’ launch edition Capras available Worldwide, in the MX guise only in a custom paint scheme and spec. This bike will come in at £6,699.00. Beyond that, initially, two models will be available, with the range growing going forward. The Core 4 build is £4,999.00, while the Core 3 is £3,999.00.
Both frames come with their own rear triangles. The MX option offering shorter chainstays with more end progression, while the 29er gets a longer chainstay and a more linear curve to its suspension. Reach has been lengthened, head angles slackened and seat tubes steepened across the board, although in some cases, these changes are not drastic. Sizing now runs from Small to XXLarge, gaining a size at the smaller end of the spectrum.
Geometry
Compared to the outgoing 29″ Capra, on the size Medium reach grows by 7mm from 440 to 447mm, head angle in the slack setting slackens from 65 to 64.2 degrees, while the seat tube in its steep setting goes from 76 to 77.9 degrees. Chainstays grow by 3mm to 438mm.
If you put the 27.5″ and the Mullet Capra side by side, you’ll find that reach on the Medium grows from 435mm to 444mm, head tube angle drops from 65 to 64 degrees in the slack setting, seat tube angle rises from 75 to 77.8. Chainstays grow 6mm across the board.
