The latest ratchet update from DT Swiss is their DEG system that increases engagements and drops engagement angle significantly.
If you’re on the hunt for a hub that offers little in the way of crank rotation, then the new DT Swiss Ratchet DEG system might well be the one for you.
By increasing ratchet teeth to 90 from the EXP’s 36, DT Swiss have been able to bring down engagement angle to a measly 4 degrees. An extra internal spring, larger diameter ratchets and a larger hubs shell increases weight over the other hubs on offer in the range.
There’s no compatibility between this and other DT hubs, arguably another good reason to go DEG is that owing to the larger diameter but the real bonus is that you can knock out the drive side bearing without having to remove the threaded drive ring.
Ratchet DEG is only available on the 240 hubs and wheels that are built around them. There will be a limited edition of 240 sets of red 240 hubs in SRAM XD driver only. These cost the same as the standard 240 DEG hub at £354.99 RRP. Wheels with the DEG system are the XMC1501 and EXC1501 Spline One wheels at £849.99 RRP.
