We have lost one of the good ones. Lorraine Truong was pinned on anything with wheels and some without, and put the conversation about concussion into sharp focus. She will be missed.
Lorraine Truong’s family issued a statement to say that the former enduro racer, wheelchair MX champ and standard-bearer for concussion awareness has passed away. Rest in peace Lorraine.
Lorraine raced the Enduro World Series at its inception and quickly made herself a consistent top ten finisher. This meteoric rise would be clipped short by a crash in 2015. A brain injury and the resulting symptoms saw her champion of both adaptive sports and as a campaigner for concussion awareness, especially repeated impacts.
Despite not being able to race at the sharp end of mountain bike enduro, Lorraine would quickly become adept at paraskiing and climbing, as well as a three-time wheelchair MX World Champion. Never one to shy away from talking about the difficulties she experienced in dealing with her injuries, it opened the door for talking about concussion and we’re all better for it.
We never met Lorraine but her passion for the ourdoors and life was infections even lived vicariously through the internet.
Make sure you look after your brain and yourselves folks. Look after each other too. It’s not always the big impacts that do the damage.
Rest in peace Lorraine.
