Following the successful run of the initial programme in 2025, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS), South of Scotland Enterprise and Edinburgh Napier University, are excited to announce the next edition of “First Tracks,” the UK’s first dedicated Adventure Tourism Launchpad Programme.

Designed to support innovators launch new services in the Adventure Tourism sector, this unique 8-week programme starting on 19th January 2026 combines expert business coaching on a weekly basis with key skill sessions and industry-specific insights. This will help participants bring their ideas to life and is part of the pipeline of activities ahead of the new MTB Innovation Centre opening in 2027.

First Tracks will provide a creative, fun and supportive environment for budding and existing entrepreneurs. The programme features a mix of one-to-one business advice and interactive group sessions, ensuring that each participant receives tailored support and the opportunity to learn from peers and experienced mentors too. The programme is open to all those with that big idea they want to progress. Anyone from pre- start-ups to existing businesses is eligible. The in-person sessions are based in the South of Scotland but the Partnership behind the programme welcomes anyone looking to develop new services to apply from across the UK.

What sets First Tracks apart from other programmes is its unparalleled access to expertise within the tourism, outdoors, and particularly cycling industries. Participants will engage with seasoned professionals and mentors who understand the challenges and opportunities unique to these sectors, providing invaluable insights and connections. Entrepreneurs will leave with the solid foundations for business growth, and the confidence and skills to make robust business decisions.

“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to build on an already successful programme for 2026; giving further opportunities for business start-ups to connect with entrepreneurs, sector experts and seasoned business professionals that make up the vibrant First Tracks community,” said Ed Ibbetson, Regional Development Coordinator at DMBinS. “We’re dedicated to supporting innovators who are developing businesses that will go on to thrive in the marketplace whilst offering new and exciting outdoor and adventure experiences.
