A brand new mountain bike festival is coming to Ashton Court this summer, with organisers promising a day of riding, family fun, friendly competition, food, drinks, and community spirit for riders of all ages and abilities.

Bristol Shredfest takes place on Saturday, 11th July 2026 and is a new collaboration between Ride Bristol and Bristol Shredders.

Ride Bristol is the volunteer organisation that maintains Bristol’s mountain bike trails and helps build a community around them. Bristol Shredders is the mountain biking group for kids and their adults.

The event has grown from a small children’s mountain bike gathering into a mini festival that’s open to everyone, from complete beginners and young riders to experienced mountain bikers looking for a great day on the trails.

Importantly, the festival is free to attend, with visitors able to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy food and drink, browse exhibitors, and watch the action throughout the day. Tickets are only required for those wanting to take part in the organised riding activities.

The festival offers something for everyone. Highlights include the Shredfest Classic, a 35km old-school mountain bike adventure around some of Bristol’s best-loved riding spots. Riders looking for a bit of friendly competition can take on the Shredfest Triple Crown, a three-stage timed event around Ashton Court that focuses on smiles as much as fast times.

For families and younger riders, the Kid’s Shredquest Challenge will send budding adventurers around Ashton Court to search for checkpoints and complete challenges.

There will also be a Mini Trail Dig, giving young riders the chance to get hands-on with trail building and learn what goes into maintaining Bristol’s mountain bike trails. And, a Bike Clothing Jumble Sale. Donate your MTB gear, and it’ll be sold to raise money for two great causes, with anything leftover being donated to Alpkit’s Continuum Foundation.

The festival also aims to lower barriers to getting into the sport. An Intro to MTB Beginner’s Ride, complete with bike hire from Pedal Progression, will give newcomers the chance to experience mountain biking in a friendly, supportive environment without needing to own a bike.

Away from the riding, visitors can enjoy food and drinks from local vendors, a licensed bar (with drinks from Left Handed Giant and Branch Cider), demo bikes, free Avon and Somerset Police bike marking, exhibitor stands, and a large fundraising raffle packed with prizes donated by businesses from across the cycling and outdoor industries.

We wanted to create an event that captures everything that’s great about Bristol’s mountain biking community, said Fi Wilson, co-founder of Shredders and a Ride Bristol Trustee.

Mountain biking should be fun, welcoming, and accessible. Whether you’re trying it for the first time, riding with your kids, chasing your mates around a course, or just looking for a great day outdoors, Bristol Shredfest is all about taking part your way. Expect a bit of friendly competition, a bit of silliness, and a lot of people having a very good time on bikes!”

While fun sits firmly at the heart of the festival, there is a bigger purpose behind the event. Funds raised will support the work of Ride Bristol and Bristol Shredders, helping more young people try mountain biking, while supporting efforts to improve and maintain Bristol’s trail network.

Organisers hope Shredfest will become an annual fixture in Bristol’s cycling calendar, celebrating the city’s thriving riding culture while encouraging more people to discover mountain biking for the first time.

Tickets for riding activities are available now, while general admission to the festival is free.
