We’re celebrating here at Wideopenmag …

We just found out that our lad – Mr Rich Thomas – has finished 10th overall in the British Downhill Series.

Rich will be the first to admit that he’s had a pretty tough old season.

He picked up a gnarly ankle injury at the end of the winter whilst training in Spain. Despite that, he got back to health and was ready, just in time for the first round of the British Downhill Series. Having overcome that one he then took the gnarliest crash of his life at the Val Di Sole World Cup.That all but wrote off his knee and ankle and knocked him out of the next two World Cups, National Champs, the Llangollen BDS and onto a regime of hardcore physio.

Lucky for us, Rich is a gnarly old bugger and hit the physio hard with the help of his trainer Andy Dockrell and their gym at Hutton More Leisure Centre in Weston Super Mare.

Rich got back on his Nukeproof at last weekend’s BDS final at Bringewood and was obviously pleased to be back. “yeah – I’m loving it, it’s tough but it’s amazing just being back racing again!”. Tough or not, Rich landed 7th place on the day which was enough to put him into 10th place overall in the series. Excellent work dude!

Rich is now focusing on the last two World Cups of the year.  Wish him luck!
