Team Wideopenmag at Shimano BDS Round 2 Fort William

Ah Fort William! The second big one for Team Wideopenmag of 2014.

Big weather, a brutally rough track, miles behind the wheel to even get to the race – it all adds up to a gnarly weekend for racers, mechanics and media squids alike! We had a chat in the van on the way home and agreed that all in all it was the toughest race we’ve been to in a bloody long time!

Despite that and a bit of bad luck on track we had a blast. Kye was the star of the weekend, taking a 2nd place once again in Masters. He was a bit frustrated that he didn’t take the win but he’s not far off the top step!

The elites both had tough races – Rich especially. He crashed hard in seeding and had to just nail some painkillers, strap up a sore ankle and man-up for finals. Fair play to him, he smashed out a run and did us proud. Good practice for the World Cup if nothing else eh mate?

Fort Bill was Jay’s 101st race and he was fresh from his first elite win at Bala. He landed a solid mid-pack result which is damn good considering the elite line up included the Athertons, every Monster Energy UK elite, Sam Hill, Troy Brosnan and a host of other top dogs. The day after the race he was awarded the GB jersey to race Fort William and Leogang World Cups. The force is strong in that one!

Joe Parfitt. Our young gun. He was a total star this weekend and showed he’s got the minerals to be a serious racer. He left Antur dissapointed and was out to make up for it. His final run ended up with a puncture and he crossed the line ready to “fill his goggles” (as one of our mates said).  He worked hard all weekend, sucked up a kick in the balls final run and just cracked on.

Last but not least – Oscar and Chaz – our tireless, hard-grafting mechanics. Both of those guys work like absolute machines all weekend from the the minute they way up to the minute they go to sleep. Both remaining absolutely positive despite shit weather, late nights and there never quite being enough beer to go round. Heroes.

See you all at Ae Forest!
