A week or so ago we spotted that the guys at GMBN were helping Martyn Ashton build a custom, motorised Canyon Sender downhill bike. They were teasing that Martyn was going to head out to Whistler and ride the Bike Park. That didn’t seem all that unbelievable given Martyn’s way of doing the unexpected.
It looks like we were right. Martyn Ashton is in Canada and is properly shredding the bike park like a boss. He’s out in Whistler Bike Park with the GMBN crew and doesn’t seem to be holding back on getting stuck in to some proper, gnarly trails.
For those of you that don’t know, Martyn Ashton is a legend of mountain biking. He grew his name riding trials, appearing in videos and generally inspiring us to ride bikes. In 2013 he suffered a life changing crash that damaged his spine and left him paralysed. That didn’t stop Martyn though and he was quickly back on his feet, back on his bike, back in front of the camera and continuing to inspire us to ride.
As a reminder … Martyn first showed us he was back on the bike in 2015, two years after his accident on a modified Nicolai.
After that he blew our minds by riding a full run of the Fort William World Cup track in front of a home crowd. We saw it for ourselves and it was an amazing moment in mountain bike history.
