Seasons was released in April 2008 and was the third film from The Collective – following The Collective and Roam. The series came at the tail end of the days when big huck videos were popular – like New World Disorder, Down, Kranked, Chain Reaction and the likes.
The series moved away from big hucks and freeride towards a more ‘adventure’ vibe with far flung locations, a focus in high quality cinematography and more emphasis on speed and style. The music was fresh, the style oozed quality and the riders were no longer just hurtling off big Kamloops gaps. To many riders it was a real breath of fresh air they’d been looking for.
The film was a feature length road trip of the World’s best riding spots with 7 riders, taking in 7 locations. They were Darren Berrecloth, Matt Hunter, Cam McCaul, Steve Peat, Andrew Shandro, Steve Smith, and Thomas Vanderham.
Whilst the whole movie was a real land mark for mountain bike films, the final Whistler section was – in many rider’s eyes – a bit of a masterpiece and became an instant classic.
The section shows the riders coming together at the end of the season in Whistler to session some fun trails. It shows a few of the World’s best riders just having a blast, riding with their mates and sessioning trails in a totally honest, un-staged and easy to relate to way.
And – of course – that Cat Empire song just adds a feel-good vibe that you can’t help but love, right? I’d wager a lot of riders learned to love that band because of Seasons!
