The Utah desert is currently being torn to pieces by crews looking to creating the perfect line for this weekend’s Red Bull Rampage.
But Cedric Gracia is calling out Rampage in a plea to keep closer to the original ethos of the event.
Cedric’s beef for this year is slope style and over-digging of the hill.
He remembers the old days when he competed and it was about “big mountain biking”.
Back in the old days, he says, they’d turn up the Tuesday of the event and didn’t spend two weeks manicuring the hill. Cedric wants “some speed, some style, some big drops …but not all about the tricks, it’s not slope style it’s a big mountain event”.
“Please guys, I hope it’s not going to be a slope style. This is big mountain biking”
It seems that CG wants to see big drops, vert chutes and much more old school ‘freeride’ lines over the new school jumps, drops, flips and spins.
We’re torn … the old school stuff does feel truer to Rampage’s roots.
But if riders are gravitating towards big air and technical tricks then surely that’s just the evolution of the event?
After all, it’s an event that’s all about the riders, right?
