SRAM Launch Second Generation Guide Brake, The G2.

Building on the lessons learned when designing their Code brake, SRAM have launched their second generation Guide brake, the G2.

With everything bar the level exterior changing, the G2 promised a claimed 7% increase in power over the outgoing Guide.

Two models will be available, the Ultimate at £265 and RSC at £170. The G2 RSC is designed to offer contact point adjustment and four piston performance at a lower price than where these features were found on Guide.

A stiffer, more powerful caliper is the main focus of the new brake, as the fluid volume, pistons, pad and leverage are the same as the Guide.

A redesigned pad pocket is a little narrower and the connection points around the body bolts are larger which results in less caliper flex, which therefore provides more direct power transfer than in previous designs.

SRAM also developed our new Power organic pad compound. This compound delivers a more aggressive “bite” and increased power during sustained braking.

The new hose is less prone to holding a shape, allowing for easier installation and a cleaner look. G2’s hoses have a matte appearance as the result to a change in the outer sheath.

It should now be easier to align the caliper by having an improved pad gap.
