We Take a Closer Look at Joe Nation’s Pole Bicycles Prototype.

Pole Bicycles’ Kiwi pinner Joe Nation was rocking a very unique prototype for the finale of the 2021 Enduro World Series in Innerleithen.

With a lot of features carried over from the Voima ebike, this as yet unnamed Pole Bicycles prototype (although Joe calls it Goldmember), is still quintessentially a Leo Kokkonen creation.

Key features:

  • CNC’d 7075 T6 and bonded aluminium frame
  • 190mm travel
  • Sensei Suspension System
  • Double pivot bearings
  • 63.5 degree head angle
  • 80 degree seat tube angle

The Pole Bicycles’ ‘Goldmember’ prototype bike was borne from the two-year development of the Voima ebike. The goal was to have a suspension system that could work with both ebikes and regular bikes, so in that respect, this prototype will prove if the design has worked.

With recent advances in suspension damper technology, Pole also wanted to create a long travel bike that could be ridden all day and on any type of trail. With the advent of the 190mm Rockshox Zeb, it was decided to use this length of travel as the target. The 190mm rear wheel travel is handled by Pole’s Sensei system, which features a multi-bar link.

There’s currently no news as to whether or not this will be the final prototype, or there will be more coming. Race season might well be over but Pole Bicycles have some very fast riders on the books, including the main man Leo, to test whether or not the bikes are up to scratch. Watch this space.
