Trek have released their sixth generation Slash that gets geometry and kinematic tweaks as well as more travel and a bigger lunch box.
Out of the box, the Trek Slash Gen. 6 is a 170mm travel, Mullet-wheeled machine with plenty of adjustment to suit pretty much any track out there.
Probably the most notable change to the Trek Slash is that it’s now running a high pivot just like its bigger brother, the Session. 170mm travel front and rear, and in the latter case, designed to work in conjunction with the new Rockshox Vivid air shock. Whilst the Slash has been a 29er since 2017, testing showed that the Mullet setup (27.5″ on the S) in this configuration was the way to go.
As standard, the bike comes with a 63.5 degree head angle, 0.5 slacker than previous, but with headset adjustable anywhere between 62.5 and 64.5 should you be a real tinkerer. This is combined with a suitably steep 78 degree seat tube angle. Should you want to go 29er, the replaceable lower shock mount will let you do so. Chainstays are also size-specific and the seat tube on the Medium will also take a 200mm dropper.
A flip chip also lets you add progression into the suspension, allowing you to better run air or coil shocks and that high pivot gives a suitable dollop of that 170mm as rearward axle path to properly get out of the way of the hits. An Active Braking Pivot aims to keep the braking forces out of the way of the suspension.
Internal cable routing is fully guided and there is a point made to try and make use of the same size bearings throughout the frame where possible. Moulded frame protectors also aim to minimise noise and frame damage.
Two alloy an five carbon framed models exist. Prices start at ยฃ4,250.00 for the alloy Slash 8 and rise to ยฃ11,750.00 for the Slash 9.9 XX AXS T-type.
Geometry
The Slash is available in S, M, ML, L and XL sizes.
Reach on the M with Mullet wheels and the straight headset cup is 448mm with a seat tube of 400mm. Head tube angle is 63.3 degrees with a seat tube angle of 77.8 degrees. Chainstays are 429.2mm with a wheelbase of 1223.8mm.
