A year after they launched their GX AXS T-type drive, SRAM have released their base offering in the form of the S-1000 range.
SRAM’s new S-1000 drivetrain (don’t make us say ecosystem, please…), sees the trickle-down effect that started with the release of the XX AXS T-type in late March last year.

There’s nobody standing on their mechs this time but arguably, this launch might be actually worth getting excited about. SRAM have trickled their AXS T-type tech down to their new S-1000 range, which brings all the benefits of XX, XX SL, XO and GX at a more sensible asking price.
As of now though, the only way you’ll be able to get your hands on it, is if it’s fitted to a new bike. Whilst you won’t be able to buy anything but the replacement gear cluster aftermarket right now, there are plans to make the whole cassette available in the near future.
S-1000 consists of two cranks, both regular and e-bike models alongside a direct mount mech similar in layout to the GX mech with the battery internal as well as a cassette. The shifter pod is universal. S-1000 is compatible with all other T-type components.

The S-1000 MTB crank is a forged alloy unit with SRAM’s 8-bolt chainring mount. Lengths are in 5mm increments between 155 and 170mm. The bash guards are the same as those used on the GX and XO cranks. Chainrings are stamped steel or aluminium. eBike chainsets are available in the same lengths and to fit SRAM, Brose, Bosch and ISIS variants.
With it’s all-black colouring, the S-1000 mech is very much a clone of the GX AXS T-type rear derailleur complete with the new Cage Spring Damper, replaceable parts and direct mount interface.
New for SRAM Eagle cassettes is the fact that the S-1000 cassette offers a full10-52t range on a splined driver body and is compatible with 8, 9 and 10-speed Driverbody compatible, as long as it’s steel. The lock ring is integrated with 10t driver hence the full range and 10-18t are in their own, replaceable cluster with the entire cassette finished in nickel chrome.
