Aletsch Arena and it’s mighty glacier, along with Bellwald, will host the opening events of the 2025 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Valais next year. After the opening ceremony in Sion, enduro and e-enduro returns to a former EDR and EDR-E World Cup venue, as well as the ebike cross country event, kicks things off in the north east of the canton.

Monthey then hosts a very different event indeed with the pumptrack World Championships making the most of the brand new and extensive Velosolutions-built facility on the banks of the mighty Rhone river. Cross country marathon then heads to the ski resort of Verbier which has teamed up with Val dAnniviers to offer a point-to-point race in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

Downhill returns for the third time to Champery and its second time as a UCI Downhill World Championship venue. We were there in 2011 to watch all four winners ride that track like nobody else. Yes, it’ll probably rain on race day, yes it’ll probably be terrifyingly steep and yes, the winning runs will go down in history. Will we get a new track though?

Cross country short track heads to Zermatt and the shadow of the Matterhorn. Unusually, this is not the location for the cross country Olympic discipline but that likely won’t bother the racers. With no big race to qualify for, this is all about the Rainbow Stripes. Expect there to be some very sharp elbows on display. Alessandra Keller will be a firm favourite to win on home turf.

The fortnight rounds out with Crans-Montana hosting the cross county Olympic. The big show. There will be plenty of big Swiss names gunning for this one. All eyes will be on Nino Schurter and Jolanda Nef this weekend. Would N1NO retire after winning his home World Champs? Probably not…
