Tested : Pete’s Stogies Melted Jersey Review.

Pete met the team behind Stogies MTB Clothing at the DMBinS Conference at the tail end of last year and has been putting their Melted Jersey through its paces since.

Stogies are a small brand based out of Aberdeenshire making technical clothing that doesn’t break the bank, combined with some interesting graphics. Their Melted Jersey is inspired by the melted cheese popular in the Alps.

Stogies’ Melted Jersey is a Polyester and Spandex mix long sleeve jersey that’s designed to be light weight and breathable. The Polyester and Spandex TrailFlex front is aimed at providing plenty of freedom of movement thanks to its 4-way stretch. An AirFlex back, 100% polyester is aimed at getting rid of the heat and maximising airflow.

The riding jerseys are designed as a kit, so there will be a review of a matching set of trousers coming soon, again, in the same colours and graphics. Probably the best thing about the Stogies offering though is the price, which while not at Context levels, certainly isn’t astronomical.

In general, the Melted Jersey is a delight to ride in. The addition of Spandex to the arms and front give the jersey a soft feel against the skin that never feels restrictive. Back sweat isn’t too problematic either, although it’s worth mentioning that this hasn’t seen any summer use yet.

Whether as an outer layer or under a jacket, the Stogies jersey is easy to forget about, meaning it’s doing it’s job well. It has stood up to plenty of machine cycles when it’s either been covered in mud or the smell of me after a long ride. Whilst the styling might not be to everyone’s taste, it’s certainly not a bad jersey by any means, and not expensive to boot.

What do we think?

Stogies’ Melted Jersey quietly goes about its business, being sensibly priced, comfy and well-made. Proof positive that you don’t need the highest tech materials or to be the biggest brand to do things right.

We love:

  • All day comfort
  • Durable
  • Not daft money

Could do better:

  • Brown and yellow might not be to everyone’s taste.
