Founded by Don Jackson-Wyatt, Shred.Safe aims to help diabetic MTBers better navigate and manage their condition whilst out on the trails.
SHRED.SAFE, the UK’s Only Mountain Bike Safety App Built for Diabetic Riders and announces Founding Partnerships with Hafod Trails, Rourke Cycles and Becci Skelton.

A rider-built app tackling the one question the MTB world has never answered: how do you ride hard and manage diabetes at the same time?
SHRED.SAFE (shred-safe.co.uk), the UK’s only mountain bike safety app built specifically for diabetic riders, today announces its three founding partners: Hafod Trails, the award-winning Carmarthenshire bike park; Rourke Cycles, the legendary independent bike shop in Stoke-on-Trent; and Becci Skelton, former British Downhill Series Elite Champion and one of the UK’s most respected MTB coaches.
Built by a Diabetic Rider, Because Nothing Else Existed
SHRED.SAFE was created by Don Jackson-Wyatt, a downhill and trail rider from North Wales who lives with Type 2 diabetes. After years of riding venues like Antur Stiniog and Bike Park Wales while juggling blood glucose, energy dips and the very real risk of a hypo miles from the car park, he went looking for a tool that understood the problem. There wasn’t one. So he built it.
“Diabetes doesn’t care that you’re halfway down a black run,” says Jackson-Wyatt. “Every diabetic rider knows the maths you do in your head before a ride: what you’ve eaten, what your levels are doing, how hard the trail is, how far you are from help. SHRED.SAFE takes that mental load and puts structure around it. I built it because I needed it, and it turned out thousands of other riders needed it too.”

What the App Does
SHRED.SAFE is a progressive web app that works on any phone, with core features free and a full premium unlock for a one-off payment of £4.99, with no subscription.
Key features include:
- Pre-Ride Planner: a structured pre-ride check that helps riders think through glucose, fuel, kit and conditions before wheels roll.
- Hypo Forecast: guidance that helps riders anticipate the conditions where low blood sugar becomes more likely, so they can plan fuelling around the ride ahead.
- Trail Directory: 43 UK venues and 134 routes, including Llandegla, Bike Park Wales, Antur Stiniog and Coed y Brenin, with the detail diabetic riders actually need.
- Emergency Card: a lock-screen-ready card telling first responders and bystanders exactly what they are dealing with and what to do.
- Buddy Alert: a simple way to keep a named contact in the loop, so someone always knows where you are riding and when you should be back.

SHRED.SAFE is not medical advice and does not replace the guidance of a GP, diabetes nurse or consultant. It is a planning and safety companion designed to sit alongside proper medical care, helping riders apply what their healthcare team has told them to the specific, messy, brilliant reality of a day on the trails.
Founding Partner: Hafod Trails
Hafod Trails is a family-built, uplift-served bike park on the edge of Brechfa Forest in Carmarthenshire. Opened in spring 2024 and named Trail of the Year in 2025, Hafod has earned a reputation as one of the friendliest and most progression-focused venues in the UK, with trails running from new-rider green through to technical black, all served by a famously efficient uplift. Its rider-first culture and genuine focus on safety and progression made it the natural founding venue partner for SHRED.SAFE, and Premium users already benefit from a discount on Hafod day passes.
Founding Partner: Rourke Cycles
Rourke Cycles has been at the heart of British cycling since 1972. Founded in Stoke-on-Trent by former national champion Brian Rourke, the shop is 100% rider owned and remains one of the UK’s most respected independents, known for its hand-built custom frames, deep mechanical expertise and honest, rider-to-rider advice. That heritage of looking after riders properly, rather than just selling to them, is exactly the ethos SHRED.SAFE was built on, making Rourke Cycles the perfect retail founding partner.
Founding Partner: Becci Skelton
Becci Skelton is one of the most recognisable figures in UK mountain biking. She came to the sport at 28, and within a few years had won the overall Elite British Downhill Series Championship in 2019. A qualified personal trainer with more than 15 years of coaching experience, Becci now runs Becci Skelton MTB Training, working with everyone from first-timers to the current British DH Champion. Her partnership with SHRED.SAFE centres on her coaching: bringing structured skills, fitness and confidence development to a community of riders for whom preparation is not optional, it is everything.
