Key to the Litlok X1 Mini is the same tech that makes the rest of the X1 range the perfect blend of protection and weight. A fine grain, high tensile steel core is wrapped in the X-Men-sounding Barronium, the Swansea outfit’s anti-grinder armour. This is all packaged up in a rubber outer that both protects your pride and joy, whilst also being the first layer to both an angle grinder.
The X1 Mini comes in at a dense 1.48kg (5.5lbs) at a mere 99.5mm x 137mm (3.91 x 5.4″) internally. It conjures thoughts of Boris the Blade/Bullet Dodger/Sneaky F*ckin Russian in Guy Ritchie’s Snatch… “Heavy is good, heavy is reliable… If it does not work, you can always hit him with it…” Whether or not you need to harness your fictional characters whilst using the X1 Mini aside, like all Litelok products, they are made with pride in their Swansea facility.
Thankfully, I haven’t actually had to test the grinder resistance of this lock and I don’t fancy burning through a couple of grinder blades to find out just how tough this lock is. The old adage that any thief that wants something enough will get it starts to waiver when faced with locks like this. Attach it to a particular part of the bike (near the BB for example) and you start making a potential thief’s day even harder.
Along with the lock, you get three keys which is great for a scatter brain like myself (Litelok indicate that locks are supposed to come with two keys, so the one I received is an outlier). Whilst combination locks offer a myriad of options, they’re usually less sturdy and a key means that cutting is the only real option, especially with the rubber baffle to protect the lock itself on the X1 Mini.
