Wideopenmag first look: prototype Pipedream Moxie 160mm hardtail

We met up with Stuart from Pipedream Cycles at yesterday’s Bristol Oktoberfest race.

Alongside leaving us with an 853 Sirius hardtail he also showed us this 160mm hardcore Moxie hardtail – designed for thrashing trails that a ‘normal’ hardtail can’t cope with.

Stu told us “This is a new hardtail that we’ve just added to our collection. It’s got 160mm fork capability. It was born out of my desire to build a bike that can be ridden back uphill after you’ve ridden downhill and one that’s capable of being thrashed on a downhill track or round one of the man-made trails.

It’s got a 66.5 degree head angle meaning it’s nice and slack. It’s got a chain guide and ISCG tabs. The production version will have Reynolds 631 tubing and a 30.9 seat tube to give it dropper post capability. It’s also got sliding drop outs – you could fit a 650B wheel in there if you wanted to. It’s a great bike for trails and downhill – I ride it at Cwm Carn and Forest of Dean a lot”.

The numbers

    • Head Tube Angle: 65.75 deg
    • Seat Tube Angle: 67.75deg
    • Fork Axle-Crown: 545 mm (static/unsagged)
    • Top Tube Length (effective): 595 mm
    • Wheelbase: 1088mm
    • Chainstay Length: 413 (+16mm, slider)
    • Seatpost: 30.9mm
    • Seat Tube Collar: 34.9mm

There’s a good piece on the Pipedream blog about the Moxie here.
