Last week’s Stanton Bikes interview told us that their new full suspension bike will be hand built in the UK.
It also told us that there’s going to be a job going at Stanton for an experienced welder.
Dan confirmed that they’re making some big changes at Stanton. They currently make all of their bikes in Taiwan but will upgrade Stanton HQ in Matlock to allow frames to be built by hand and painted right there at home in their own facility.
The price of production in the UK over Taiwan will increase but Stanton will be able to offer custom geometry options, quick rolling changes to frames and there will be no need to ship Reynolds tubing from the UK to Taiwan and then back again for sale. They’ll also offer customers more choice of colours, with custom painted options available.
Built by hand in the UK
The new frame building workshop has been inspired by the new Stanton full suspension bike. The new bike will be built with a steel front end and an aluminium back end and was originally intended to be made in Taiwan.
Dan explained that having looked at the costs and the process he decided that it would be better value and offer more control of the process if they took full control of the whole process and did it at home in the UK.
The good news is that Stanton Bikes have a job going.
They’re looking for a full time frame builder that can work from Matlock and can help them grow their new frame building workshop.
They want an experienced, qualified welder and they want someone that can really help them push Stanton bikes forward.
The new welder will be building production frames day to day but will also be able to help build prototypes and one-offs. They’ll also, if things go well, be able to manage a team of welders in the future.
There’s some really good information on what life is like at Stanton bikes here.
