We’re at Fort William and we’re scouring the pits for the inside word on the World Cup.
First up, it’s Kelan Grant’s for-this-race-only prototype Nukeproof Pulse 29’er.
Our first downhill golden nugget of the weekend is Kelan Grant’s 29″ Nukeproof Pulse prototype.
Kelan’s usual job is racing enduro for the Chain Reaction Nukeproof team, this weekend though, he’s on the downhill and will be racing the 29″ prototype.
The prototype frame is full aluminium and has a standard 27.5″ Pulse front end, teamed up with a custom, one-off prototype rear triangle. There’s also a prototype pair of Mavic tyres on board. The rear shock has a slightly shorter stroke to fit the change in wheel size… but otherwise it’s all, according to Kelan, standard.
We asked Kelan if there was anything special going on in the bike to avoid punctures but apparently they’re just running tubeless with no inserts.
According to Kelan, Nukeproof just want to give big wheels a go and don’t have any solid plans to put the bike into production. With no current downhill team on the scene it’ll be interesting to see if this is a hint at something new for 2019.
Stay tuned for more from the Fort William World Cup all weekend here.
