Hutch Previews The Dunoon Round of the Scottish Enduro Series.

Team Wideopenmag’s Chris Hutchens previews the fourth round of the 2018 Scottish Enduro Series that heads to the west coast resort of Dunoon on July 28th.

Racing will soon be in full flow at the 4th round of the Scottish Enduro Series. There’s a thriving scene in the Costa Del Dunoon, the seaside town on the west coast of Scotland. It’s the perfect setting for some summer riding and racing.

If you’re undecided on what to do at the end of July and want to get some amazing riding under your belt and test yourself against the clock then get yourself entered, jump on the ferry (or drive round depending on where you’re coming from) and we’ll see you at the stunning seaside venue. Hell, you might even spot one of the submarines cruising up the Clyde towards the Faslane naval base. Sun burn potential is high.

The Cowal Mountain Bike club have been hard at work over the winter adding to the already great trails overlooking the Clyde. While there’s good technical sections to push your skills the trails flow and carve down a mix of open hillside and forested sections.

Expect to head out to races on the Sunday after a memorable practice day and the street prologue. What a fantastic and unique start to a race. Crowds assemble with cheering locals and riders supported by the sound of the DJ blasting tunes from the speakers. Riders make a dash off Laurence’s Leap across the road and onto the recently refurbished Victorian pier.

As usual the trails and route will provide a great chance to watch other riders and hit the trails with mates and rivals alike. While Dunoon might have been a wet affair in the past, this summer in proving to change things and the trails are currently in a very dry state and running better than ever. I’m expecting a weekend of bikes and ice creams.

Will the ice cream or ice lolly debate reemerge?

There’s plenty of fierce racing happening in the series as well. Scotland’s delivering some of the top enduro riders in the UK just now both in the Women and Men’s categories.

With the race landing the weekend after the La Thuile round of the Enduro World Series, some of the big names currently look to be absent. Lewis Buchanan is currently sitting 170 points ahead of our own Christo Gallagher. Can Christo take the series lead in his absence with 500 points available for a win?

Elena Melton was the fastest lady on track last year, light years ahead of anyone else, so expect her to do much the same this time around.
