The UK Gravity Enduro Series is closing and will cancel the last two rounds of the year

The UK Gravity Enduro Series organisers have confirmed that the series will close, effective immediately.

Steve Parr and the UK Gravity Enduro team have confirmed that the series will stop running, with immediate effect.

The remaining two races of 2018 will be cancelled and the series will not return for 2019.

The news was announced today via the UK Gravity Enduro Series’ social channels and comes the same week as the announcement that full face helmets would no longer be compulsory at UKGE races.

Parr explains that the cancellation is down to financial troubles, caused by low entries for the series. With fewer than expected riders signed up for the next two events he explains that he has done the maths and can’t make it work.

Riders will be contacted directly by the UKGE team regarding what happens next and all series sponsors and partners have been notified. Parr explains that he will contact riders once he has paid off suppliers to discuss “partial refunds”.

Whilst official series results haven’t been confirmed, the news puts Leigh Johnson as the overall men’s winner. The women’s result is still to be confirmed with Katy Winton, Katy Wakely and Becky Cook winning the three events of 2018.

So what’s next for UK Enduro Racing? Good question. There’s obviously still plenty of other events to race that aren’t the UK Gravity Enduro (Welsh Gravity Enduro anyone?)… but in terms of a ‘national’ series you’ll need to watch this space.

All of us at Wideopenmag and Team Wideopenmag would like to say a big thanks to Steve Parr and his crew for their efforts.

UPDATE:

Since we broke this story the British Enduro Mountain Bike Association have announced that they will step in and run a series for 2019.

  1. Presumably one of the other GE organisers could step in and make their race/s an unofficial round/s of the series and perhaps any partial refunds could go their way to negate loss of entries to the riders whilst gaining the additional riders for future events?

  2. I think they need to prioritise who they make aware of the cancellations. I only just found out as I was logging on to book Dyfi. Otherwise, I would still now be preparing my arrangements for AE in less than two weeks time. Racers could be booking accommodation, time of work and sucking up to their partners as we speak. Can’t be that hard to send out a group email/text.
