Bike Check | Joel Anderson’s Specialized Kenevo SL.

We take a closer look at Wideopenmag alumnus Joel Anderson’s brand spanking new Specialized Kenevo SL.

No doubt that this bike will be slung into a low orbit by one Joel Anderson in the very near future, we paid Joel a visit to take a closer look at his new Specialized Kenevo SL before he sent it into the stratosphere.

Wideopenmag alumnus Joel Anderson has taken delivery of an all-singing, all-dancing 2021 Specialized Kenevo SL SWorks. Think of this bike as a Specialized Enduro that has been adapted to run their SL ebike system. Sporting 170mm travel front and rear, the latter by a tweaked 6-bar linkage that you’ll recognise from the current Enduro platform.

Joel’s Kenevo SL is an S4, run in the Low and Slack position on the geometry adjustment courtesy of the headset cups and flip chip. Reach is a roomy 485mm in this configuration with a suitably short 440mm seat tube. With the Fox Float 38 Factory 170mm fork, you’re looking at a 62.5 degree head angle. Seat tube comes in at 76.2 degrees to keep the weight forward when the ground tilts upwards. As the motor doesn’t have the same size constraints as a full fat Specialized motor, the chainstays are a sensible 447mm.

This Kenevo SL starting life as a stock SWorks model but with some fine tuning of parts to reflect Joel’s sponsors. As above, he’s running the Fox Float 38 Factory Grip2 fork with a Float X Factory out the back. Running gear is SRAM’s top of the line XX1 Eagle AXS 12-speed wireless drive, with a Praxis Carbon M30 crank. SRAM’s Code RSC brakes handle the stopping, with a whopping 220mm rotor out front and a 200mm on the rear. An AXS Rockshox Reverb deals with the seat height.

Wheels come in the form of Roval Traverse 29 SL carbon fibre hoops shod with the Goodyear Newton tyres front and rear. Unsurprisingly, Deity, another of Joel’s sponsors, features heavily in the cockpit department. Out front, you have Deity’s Racepoint bars, Copperhead stem and Knuckleduster grips deal with the steering duties. Their Speed Trap saddle rounds out the finishing kit. CarderTech TenFour pedals keep the feet in check.
