The R-Core sits between the light weight mesh constructed Celium glove and the toasty warm modern classic, Brisker, in 100%’s glove range. I would certainly call it a mid weight glove as it will be a bit hot and sweaty for summer party laps and probably not quite warm enough for low single digit celsius winter epics. That is no bad thing though as the R-Core has firmly found its place in my riding wardrobe when it comes to brisk autumn mornings and even the odd night ride where it feels just right.
The fit is quite snug compared to other size large gloves I have tested, especially after its first trip through the washing machine, so you might want to consider trying them on and buying from your local bike shop rather than online.
Hand armour is always a bit controversial and you don’t want to look like you have knuckle dusters on, but the low key rubbery ribs on the little finger don’t get in the way or impede your grip on the bars. I tend to hang my hand and pinky off the end of the bars a bit, frequently scraping my hand, and I felt like these gloves gave a bit more protection than most in this department. In general they were also very effective against late-summer brambles and thorns which was good news at my local spot.
What do we think?
The R-Core is a comfy and grippy glove ideal for spring and autumn riding as well as riding overgrown and wild trails.
