We take a closer look at Rory Skinner’s Orbea Occam M10 LT, used in the Trail Tales film ‘The Last Flight’ that is set in Torridon’s mighty mountains.
With plenty of options to choose from, why would a Scottish Trail Tales ambassador pick the Occam LT over one of the other bikes in the Orbea line-up? We take a peek at Rory Skinner’s Orbea Occam M10 LT.
Register for Trail Tales updates by tomorrow (December 23rd) and be in with a chance of winning a set of Race Face Turbine R wheels here.

Rory Skinner might not be a name you’re all that familiar with in mountain bike circles, but the Moto2 World Championship rider races superbikes for American Racing, and those bike skills transfer from the ‘big’ bike to the ‘wee’ bike pretty well.

Rory Skinner’s Orbea Occam M10 LT is the do-it-all mountain machine for those big days out in the hills. Offering more travel and less racy geometry than the Oiz, but smaller and lighter than the enduro race sled that is the Rallon. 150mm travel front and rear with 29″ wheels only makes this the ideal bike for heading into the hills with.
Rory’s Occam is a size Large and with there being no flip chip in the frame and a standard headset, it’s very much a ‘run what you brung’ setup. Reach on the Large LT Occam is a roomy 474mm combined with a 457mm seat tube. Head angle is 65.5 degrees combined with a seat tube angle of 76.5 degrees. Chainstays are 440mm across both the standard and LT Occam on all sizes.

Rory runs a fully stock 2023 Orbea Occam M10 LT. As above, he’s running the Fox Float 36 Factory Grip2 fork with a Float DHX Factory out the back. Running gear is Shimano’s venerable XT 12-speed drive with an XT crank too. Shimano’s XT 4-pot anchors deal with the stopping duties, with Galfer rotors as standard. 200mm on the front and a 180mm on the rear. An Orbea OC2 Mountain Control dropper deals with the seat height.
Wheels come in the form of Race Face Turbine R hoops shod with the Maxxis rubber front and rear. Both EXO casing with a Minion DHF out front and a Dissector DHF on the rear. RaceFace Next and Aeffect R 35mm units make up the cockpit, with a 20mm rise bar and a 35mm stem. Saddle is a Fizik Taiga unit. Rory uses the tried and tested Shimano M647 ‘DX’ clipless pedals.
