The high asking price of the new Kids Ride Shotgun Dirt Hero off-road balance bike is offset by the fact that it is two bikes in one. Able to be fitted with either 12 or 14″ wheels, rather than the usual jump from 12 to 16, requiring a new bike purchase, the Dirt Hero ensures that a quick wheel swap is all that’s required.
For your money you get a bike between 4 and 4.6kg depending on wheel size and brake option. The frame is 6061-T6 aluminium, with a 1 1/8″ steerer and 27.2 post. As standard, the bike comes without a rear brake, but there is an upgrade option to add a Magura MT4 with a 140mm rotor. Regardless of wheel size, you get Vee Tire Crown Gem 2.25″ tyres for proper off-road use.
The Magura brake was chosen as it runs closer to the bar than most brakes and requires less force to use than a traditional V brake lever. The rotor even comes with a rotor guard to protect fingers.
