Following the launch of The Contour Collective in 2021 the team has found a lot of success already in its short and modest existence.
With Christo Gallagher elevated to a Factory ride in 2023 following a number of world class performances at the EWS and winning the British Enduro Series in 2021 it was a natural move to look at future talent to grow the team.
Contour is delighted to announce that Calum McBain has joined The Contour Collective for 2023. The reigning Scottish Enduro Champion joins the team and will be supported by Chris Hutchens and Christo Gallagher this season who together bring over 30 years of racing experience to the Collective already.
With a core objective to give back to the sport Calum McBain will be riding for the team in 2023 and beyond…until we can again help find him a Factory Ride.
He’s already cemented himself as one of the fastest Scottish Downhill riders over the past few years. His results include a huge win at the SDA in 2022 beating then World Champion Reece Wilson and he has already added to that with an impressive 4th place on his Bird Aeris trail bike this year at the opening SDA event at Innerleithen.
With the financial and logistical challenges of Downhill World Cup racing Calum’s focus has shifted in the last couple of years to Enduro and his results are impressive. Securing the Scottish Enduro Series title ahead of Christo in 2022 was the icing on the cake after some strong international races. His top 20 on the Pro Stage at the EWS in Italy really stood out though.
Chris Hutchens, one of Contours founding members said, ‘Calum’s enthusiasm and energy for bikes and racing is contagious and it’s great to be able to provide him some level of support this year thanks to the teams partners and supporters. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can achieve between the tape and maybe he’ll teach an old dog some new tricks. We’re super thankful to the brands who have been able to help put a package together for Calum, times are tough for many businesses out there and it’s making a transformative difference to Calum’s race plans this year”
“I can’t thank the Contour Collective enough for this new and exciting path that lies ahead of me for 2023” Calum remarked going onto say, “ Me and Chris Hutchens first got to know each other last year in Loudenvielle, France for EWS. It was great to be in a team environment and being able to make something happen going into this year is super exciting.
In the off season I’ve been working consistently on my physical fitness along with learning how to improve my fuelling, breathing and mentality. Having glimpses of what could have been last year has made me really motivated for the 2023 season. My goals are to be mixing it up with the top 20 contenders within the Enduro World Cup Series and making some unforgettable memories along the way with the Contour Collective Team ”
You’ll continue to see Christo across the Collective’s Youtube channel as well as photo and video support from Contour Creatives talented Doug Somerville. The Contour Collective will be sharing videos throughout the year from different riding locations and content from a number of races. Their first one just went live from Tarland Trails.
Keep an eye out for The Contour Collective at the Enduro World Cup, British races and across the country at different riding locations where you can gain inspiration in their growing Travel Guide on their website here.
