SRAM’s GX AXS Eagle Gets the T-Type Treatment.

With considerably less standing on rear mechs, SRAM launches its latest drivetrain offering in the form of the GX AXS Eagle T-type transmission.

As predicted when we dropped our SRAM XO Eagle review, a GX equivalent is now available and whilst not cheap, it’s far less of an internet wrecker.

Whilst it’s far from cheap, the new GX T-type Transmission from SRAM is a far cry more affordable than its XO or XX counterparts. At ยฃ1,180 RRP, you’re still looking at a replacement GX or XT groupset to go with the one you’re running currently… It’s still almost ยฃ800 cheaper. But we digress.

The new GX AXS T-type brings the new direct mount transmission down the range, just as GX AXS did for the non-direct mount drive trains in the SRAM line up. They’ve done this by using heavier materials whilst retaining the other technological improvements that XO and XX offered.

Battery position has moved to a far more protected position within the mech body itself, rather than hanging on for dear life on the far reaches of your bike. Bigger skid plates and an overall burlier build up the weight but reduce the cost. Like its bigger brothers, all parts are replaceable.

GX cranks look very much like a less machine version of the XO alloy units, pretty much because they are. More weight and less time worked equals less money asked. You do get a smaller chainring option on this chainset though, with a 30t front ring now available.

Over on the cassette front, the ‘mini cluster’ from 9 to 12t’ and the use of heavier materials makes the GX cassette considerably less wince-inducing when you look at the asking price. You get the same shift performance though and the setup cog like on the pricier options too though. If you already have a GX AXS groupset, a lot, not all, components will cross over but it’s worth doing your homework on this front before splashing the cash.

Individually, the mech will set you back ยฃ430, ยฃ150 for the cranks, ยฃ270 for the cassette and ยฃ55 for the chain.
